Housing & Homelessness

Why it matters & Rebecca’s leadership

Rent has doubled over the last 10 years in King County– pushing people to the brink, displacing our neighbors, increasing homelessness, and destabilizing families. Rebecca has championed building hundreds of thousands of units of affordable housing, protecting renters, and creating long-term solutions rooted in equity and community stability.

Key accomplishments

  • Championed historic investments in the Housing Trust Fund, which provides 60,000 units of affordable housing for families and supports homelessness prevention programs.

  • Led the fight to end exclusionary zoning and allow more types of housing to be built in every neighborhood.

  • Passed a strong cap on rent increases, protections for tenants, and eviction and foreclosure prevention measures that are keeping thousands of families housed.

  • Helped build thousands of units of community led housing focused on stopping displacement and gentrification through the use of community land trusts and equitable development initiatives.

  • Advocated for the Black Home Ownership Initiative and Covenant Housing program that creates pathways to home ownership for folks historically excluded due to racist policies.

Looking ahead on King County Council

As a County Councilmember, Rebecca will tax the ultra-rich to build hundreds of thousands of units of housing across King County. She will use every available tool– public land trusts, equitable transit-oriented development, bonding, and more– to build more housing, prevent displacement, and ensure development creates good paying union jobs and community benefits.
